Budget Bicycle Center of Madison maintains a fleet bicycles as a public service to anyone who wants one. A small deposit is required to check out a bike and lock. The deposit is completely refunded if the bike is returned by the due date, typically set near the end of November. The bicycles are serviced by Budget Bicycle Center during the summer whenever service is needed, completely free of charge. Free service includes tires, tubes, brakes and sometimes goes as far as replacement of the bicycle if it is beyond repair.
Roger Charly, Madison resident and Owner of Budget Bicycle Center donates additional bicycles each year to the project to help balance the bikes lost the year before and hopefully increase the stock of Red Bikes available. Budget Bicycle Center lends out the entire fleet of Red Bikes each summer, all from the used bicycle showroom at 930 Regent Street in Madison.
Bicycle riding and walking are the only commute options which benefit not only the pocketbook but the heart, lungs, and mental health of the commuter.
The second annual Girls Rock Camp will soon be upon us. It looks like all the slots for both sessions are already taken, but anyone interested can sign up for the waiting list if any slots open up.

The Madison Street Use Commission unanimously decided Monday to grant final approval to the Majestic Theater in sponsoring this year’s Mifflin Street Block Party.
For the first time ever, those of legal age are permitted to drink on the streets within the event zone. Madison Police Officer Carl Gloede said he hopes this will “change an event that has traditionally had serious alcohol problems and other issues into a more positive event.”
Beer, water and food vendors will be located throughout the event zone to generate revenue to cover the event and taxpayer costs.
